New DVD Releases for the Week of July 21 2009
Here is a list of the new DVD Releases for the week of July 21 2009 (for TV on DVD releases head over to Daemon's TV):

Watchmen
Synopsis: A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" – which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the watchmen?
Cast: Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Stephen McHattie, Carla Gugino, Matt Frewer
Director: Zack Snyder
Recommendations: When I first saw Watchmen in theaters, I hadn't read the comic but really liked the movie. Now that I have read the comic, I still think the movie did a really good job bringing it to life. I think it's a movie that is worth owning.

WATCHMEN: Eric's Review (2009)
March 9, 2009 by Eric

This is not going to be your usual movie review as I am not really going to talk about what I thought of Watchmen but mostly what my girlfriend thought.
Here is the thing about my girlfriend (Let's call her Mandy). She is not a big fan of comic books so she doesn't know much about them. So when she saw the trailer of Watchmen, I was really surprised to see how excited she was to watch the movie. While this was a really cool trailer, I thought it didn't quite convey the complexity and depth of the Watchmen story. I was concerned that she was really expecting something that wasn't going to happen.
There's another thing you need to know about Mandy. If you tell her that something is great, she usually finds it OK but if you tell her that something is OK, there is a chance she will find it great. Lowering expectations is the name of the game with her. If you want her to dig something, you need to make it sound average.
So there began Operation "Lowering Mandy's Expectations".
There is nothing I did not do to achieve my mission:

New WATCHMEN Movie Trailer with a Muse Song (2009)

Yahoo! has just released the new movie trailer for WATCHMEN.
Holy crap! I didn't think it was possible for me to get even more excited about Watchmen, but turns out I was wrong. This new trailer kicks ass and I have to applaud the fact that they chose "Take a Bow" by Muse as the song, it's an amazing song and funny enough I have in my car right now. (You can get the song on
)
Watch the new trailer for Watchmen below and tell me you are not excited for the movie which will be released on March 6, 2009 (and also features on our Must See Movies list of 2009).

WATCHMEN Panel News Comic Con 2008
The WATCHMEN panel was definitely my favorite one at Comic Con. They showed an incredible extended trailer and needless to say Watchmen is going to be one of the highlights of 2009.
- Director, Zack Snyder, said it was a hard to adapt the comic into a movie.
- The movie was shot in Vancouver.
- You can see Dave Gibbons' sign in the movie as a graffiti. It's a "c" in a square. He actually seemed really excited about that.
- When asked who his favorite character is, Zack Snyder decided to go with the women, both Silk Spectre.
- Zack Snyder also incorporated the articles and news clippings from the comic into the movie.
- There wasn't much done in front of a green screen actually, except the scenes on Mars.
- The music from the trailer from Smashing Pumpkin is not in the movie and Zack Snyder wasn't sure if it was going to make it onto the soundtrack.
- The extended trailer shown was a lot more violent than the released one. For example, it featured a scene from vietnam (you see a shorter version of it in the released trailer) where Dr. Manhattan explodes 3 vietcongs. Pretty disgusting actually, but cool at the same time. Does that even make sense?
You can check out pictures from the Watchmen panel here.
WATCHMEN Character Posters
WATCHMEN posters for each character have been released and as you can tell they are pretty damn awesome. In order The Comedian (Jefferey Dean Morgan), Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup), Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson), Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley), Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman), Silk Spectre (Carla Gugino).
Can I even get more excited about this movie?
