New DVD Releases for the Week of April 14 2009
Here is a list of the new DVD Releases for the week of April 14 2009 (for TV on DVD releases head over to Daemon's TV):

The Reader
Synopsis: THE READER is a mesmerizing story of love and secrets, horror and compassion, set against the landscape of post-war Germany. When he falls ill on his way home from school, 15 year-old Michael Berg is rescued by Hanna (Kate Winslet), a woman twice his age. The two begin an unexpected and passionate affair only for Hanna to suddenly and inexplicably disappear. Eight years later, Michael, now a young law student observing Nazi war trials, meets his former lover again, under very different circumstances. Hanna is on trial for a hideous crime, and as she refuses to defend herself, Michael gradually realizes his boyhood love may be guarding a secret she considers to be more shameful than murder.
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Bruno Ganz, Kate Winslet, David Kross, Lena Olin
Director: Stephen Daldry
Recommendations: Since I haven't seen The Reader yet, I can't put it in the must buy category, but Kate Winslet did win an Oscar for her performance in it, so it's definitely a must rent.
Buy it: THE READER on Amazon (also available on Blu-ray

Movies Coming Out This Week January 9 2009
Wondering what movies are coming out to theaters this Friday, ? Here is a list with our recommendations (which you can take or leave, it's up to you).

DEFINITELY WATCH AT THE MOVIES
Bride Wars

While I have seen the trailer so many times that I am tired of it, I do think Bride Wars could be a fun movie to check out for some entertainment after a long week.
Synopsis: Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway) are best friends who since childhood have planned every detail of their respective weddings. At the top of their bridal "must have" list: a ceremony at New York's ultimate bridal destination, the Plaza Hotel.
Now, at age 26, they're both about to get married, they're about to realize their dreams; and they're about to live happily ever after.
Or maybe not...
When a clerical error causes a clash in wedding dates - they're now to be married on the same date! - Liv, Emma and their lifelong friendship are put to the ultimate test. Liv, a successful lawyer who is used to getting what she wants, including the perfect job and the perfect man, won't settle for anything less than the perfect wedding she has dreaming of for years. Emma, a schoolteacher who has always been good at taking care of others, but not so much in looking after herself, discovers her inner Bridezilla and comes out swinging when her own dream wedding is imperiled.
Now, the two best friends who'd do anything for each other, find themselves in a no-holds-barred, take no-prisoners struggle that threatens to erupt into all-out war.
Kate Winslet in THE READER First Pictures
Check out some pictures of Kate Winslet in her new upcoming movie, THE READER, that Rope of Silicon got their hands on. This sounds like such a great story and I think it's safe to say that Kate Winslet might be heading in the direction of some awards.
In case you haven't seen it yet, watch the trailer for The Reader, which is scheduled to be released on January 9, 2009.

Kate Winslet's THE READER Movie Trailer

The trailer for Kate Winslet's (other) new movie, THE READER, has been released. It looks like it is going to be a very intense movie with Oscar buzz written all over it.
The Reader is scheduled to come out on January 9, 2009.
Synopsis: The Reader opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair.
Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Hanna is enthralled as Michael reads to her from “The Odyssey”, "Huck Finn", and “The Lady with the Little Dog.” Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken.
Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life – this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hanna’s past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will impact both of their lives. The Reader is a haunting story about truth and reconciliation, about how one generation comes to terms with the crimes of another.
