Nine is loosely based on Fellini's 8 1/2 (which you should see, it's quite a trip) and follows a the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren).

Broken Embraces Synopsis: At the centre of this affecting feature sits a blind screenwriter and former director who has abandoned his real name, Mateo Blanco, for a pseudonym, Harry Caine, the first sign of the double life he leads. Harry's current reality conceals a fascinating past, which Almodóvar spends much of his film detailing. The plot is propelled by the arrival of a brash young man, hot on the heels of news that the producer of Mateo's film "Girls and Suitcases" has died. The film marked a defining period in Mateo's life, as both he and his producer had fallen madly in love with a girl who was cast in the project. The simmering Lena had turned both of their worlds inside out. She became the love of Mateo's life while simultaneously leading a double life with the film's producer. But it is the young man on his doorstep that intrigues and troubles the now blind Harry. Who is he?

I really loved the trailer and the fact that it's a musical makes me that much more excited about it. And I think we can agree that all these women look gorgeous.

After getting a first look at a picture from the movie, we finally get a trailer, and it definitely looks like an interesting movie, in a good way. Having seen Fellini's 8 1/2, on which Nine is based, I'm really curious to see how it turns out.

The first picture from Rob Marshall’s NINE has been released and MTV has gotten their hands on it.

I hadn't heard anything about the movie, but with a cast including Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Fergie, Kate Hudson, and Daniel Day-Lewis it's hard not to be excited. Plus this is a musical so that pretty much seals the deal for me (yes I am a musical freak).

The musical is based on Fellini's 8 1/2 (great movie by the way), which makes me wonder how they were even able to transform it into a musical. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Nine comes out next year, December 11, 2009.
