JULIE & JULIA Movie Review

Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci in Julie & Julia
JULIE & JULIA (4 stars out of 5)

Over the weekend I went to see Julie & Julia with one of my girlfriends. I wasn't expecting much more than a fun and entertaining movie with a good cast, but we got so much more.

Julie & Julia follows the story of two women, Julia Child and Julie Powell, living in two different times, and the effect that cooking has on their lives.

I thought it would be easier to break this review down and look at each story separately.

Julia Child

Julia Child learned how to cook when she was 37, because she wanted to learn how to cook for her husband Paul, but also because she lived in France, loved to eat and wanted to find something to do to fill her days.

I didn't expect the movie to be as funny as it was, but I spend most of it laughing at scenes featuring the adorable Julia Child portrayed by the wonderful Meryl Streep. Speaking of Meryl Streep, it's no secret that she is one of the best actors of our time, but what I didn't expect after years of watching all her great performances was for her to surprise me by how amazing she was once more. I know that this shouldn't be news to me, but I couldn't help but being amazed at how she is able to create and become a character. She was so good that she pretty much stole the movie from all the other actors, who are all also very good in their own right, which is saying something.

Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin - It's Complicated

Check out the trailer for IT'S COMPLICATED starring Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, and directed by Nancy Meyers.

When I was watching the trailer, it reminded me a little bit of Something's Gotta Give with Dian Keaton and Jack Nicholson, which I then realized was written and directed by Nancy Meyers as well, so mystery solved.

I don't know if I'm in love with the trailer, although I enjoyed it. But with Meryl Streep involved, it kind of makes me want to see it.

It's Complicated will be released to theaters on December 25, 2009. Watch the trailer below.

Check out the first pictures from THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX, a new Wes Anderson animation movie based on Roald Dahl's novel, that ComingSoon.net got their hands on.

Some of the cast lending their voices include George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Michael Gambon, Owen Wilson, Helen McCrory, Willem Dafoe, Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody, Wes Anderson, Brian Cox, and Roman Coppola. It's quite the cast!

The story is about a fox named Mr Fox, who steals chickens, ducks, and turkeys from three farmers, Boggis, Bunce and Bean, in order to feed his family. However, the farmers, fed up with his stealing, try to kill Mr. Fox and his family.

The pictures definitely have an interesting look. The foxes look like they are puppets, kind like the ones you would see at Disneyland or something like that. I'm kind of intrigued to see them in action.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox is scheduled to be released to theaters on November 13, 2009 (and October 23 in the UK). Check out another picture below.

Julie & Julia Poster

Check out the trailer for JULIE & JULIA starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci, Jane Lynch, Dave Annable, and directed by Nora Ephron.

Has there ever been a movie in which Meryl Street was bad? Didn't think so. And so it should come as no surprise that this is another great performance on her part, and I have to admit that I want to see Julie & Julia, it looks like a sweet movie.

Julie & Julia will be released to theaters on August 7, 2009. Watch the trailer below.

Julie & Julia Synopsis: Based on two true stories, 'Julie & Julia' intertwines the lives of two women who, though separated by time and space, are both at loose ends...until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.
