I'm not sure exactly what quality it is that real people possess and actors lack, but any time a film pretends to document real behavior, either literally or as a reenactment, something is almost always missing. Read More

You've heard about close encounters of the third kind, of course, the extraterrestrial meetings that involve contact, presumably of a benign nature. The fourth kind involves a more invasive sort of contact: alien abduction, possibly including those uncomfortable probes about which the true UFO believers are always so nervous. Read More

I love alien movies. Really, it's the only genre that can still scare me. I'm not saying that other spooky things don't give me pause or make me jump. It's just that there is really no mystery left. Read More
The Fourth Kind Synopsis: In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document ... until now.
Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where—mysteriously since the 1960s—a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.
Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.
Using never-before-seen archival footage that is integrated into the film, The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses. Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.

Check out the trailer for DEFENDOR starring Woody Harrelson, Elias Koteas, Kat Dennings, Sandra Oh, Michael Kelly, and directed by Peter Stebbings.
I put up some pictures from Defendor recently and was hoping for a trailer to make my final decision. Well, now that I have seen it, I am kind of excited for this movie. It looks really great and really funny. But I don't want to say too much, you just have to watch the trailer and a clip below (thanks to Twitch).
Defendor Synopsis: Reality intersects with delusion in the mind of Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson), a regular man who adopts a superhero persona known as Defendor, and combs the city streets at night in search of his arch-enemy, Captain Industry. In his attempts to combat crime and bring down Captain Industry, a drug and weapons dealer who he mistakenly blames for the death of his mother, Defendor ends up befriending a young prostitute, Katerina Debrofkowitz (Kat Dennings). Armed with unconventional weapons of mass confusion, aided by his new friend, and putting his life on the line, Defendor proves that everyone is capable of making a difference.

This looks way too freaky for me. I'm going to have to pass on it, but I'm sure some people might find it fun to watch.

Defendor will be screened at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival as part of their Special Presentation.
The premise sounds like Kick-Ass a little bit with a twist. Although I don't think the two films will be at all similar (at least it doesn't look that way).
I really love Woody Harrelson's outfit, it's pretty awesome. But I think in order to get a better idea of the movie, we'll need a trailer, which I hope will be released soon. Until then, check out more pictures from Defendor below.

Anything that Martin Scorsese does I'll watch. But even putting that aside, I really enjoyed the trailer for the movie. I like the conspiracy aspect of it and I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks to Empire, we get our first look at Martin Scorsese directing Leonardo DiCaprio and Michelle Williams.
The movie follows two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.
Mark Ruffalo explained: "This could be one of [Scorsese's] great films. He gets to do everything he loves about film: noir, dream sequences, suspense, tough urban stuff. It's absolute madness, twist upon twist."
I personally am a huge Scorsese fan and so anything he does I will see. Plus so far his teaming with Leonardo DiCaprio has really paid off, so I cannot wait to see what they come up with this time.
Shutter Island will be released on October 2, 2009.
