DIARY OF A WIMPY KID Gets a Sequel and a Director
Fox 2000 has sought out animation director David Bowers to direct the film “Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Roderick Rules.” The film is a sequel to the studio’s surprise hit “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” and would mark the live action debut of Bowers as a director.
The movies are based upon the young adult novel series from Jeff Kinney and stars Zachary Gordon, Steve Zahn and Rachael Harris are all slated to return for the sequel. Fox 2000 is moving fast on the project, with pre-production already underway. The studio hopes to begin filming in August in Vancouver and have the film ready for theaters by March 2011. The first movie grossed $64 million domestically and was made for a modest $15 million.
Bowers was chosen to direct after Thor Freudenthal, who directed the first movie, opted not to return for the sequel. Bowers previously co-directed DreamWorks Animation and Aardman [...]
