Watchmen

Synopsis: A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" – which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the watchmen?

Cast: Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Stephen McHattie, Carla Gugino, Matt Frewer

Director: Zack Snyder

Recommendations: When I first saw Watchmen in theaters, I hadn't read the comic but really liked the movie. Now that I have read the comic, I still think the movie did a really good job bringing it to life. I think it's a movie that is worth owning.

Buy it: WATCHMEN on Amazon (also available on Blu-ray)

Coraline

On Friday, I finally decided to go and see the stop-motion film, CORALINE.

Coraline is based on Neil Gaiman's book of the same name, about a girl who walks through a secret door in her new house and discovers an alternate and better version of her world and parents. Unfortunately, everything is not as it seems, and Coraline must find a way to escape this alternate world and her Other Mother, who wants to keep her there forever.

Coraline features the voices of Dakota Fanning, Terry Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, and is directed and written by Henry Selick.

CORALINE Movie Trailer (2009)

Coraline Poster

Check out the new trailer for CORALINE, Henry Selick's new movie which comes out on February 6, 2009.

As a big fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas, also directed by Coraline's director Henry Selick, it should come as no surprise that I would be excited to see this movie. And after seeing the trailer, I am more than impressed by Coraline. It looks so beautiful, and quite frankly I am amazed by the improvements made from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Based on a book by Neil Gaiman, whose work includes Stardust and MirrorMask, Coraline tells the story of a young girl who finds a door in her house that leads to another house, which resembles her own but better. The only problem is she finds a new mom and dad there who want to change her and keep her there. How will Coraline escape?

Some of the talents who lend their voices to the characters of Coraline include Dakota Fanning, Ian McShane, Teri Hatcher, Keith David, and Jennier Saunders.

You can watch the trailer for Coraline below. What do you think? Will you go see Coraline in theaters?
