Top DVD Releases for the Week of March 3 2009
Here is a list of the DVD Releases for the week of March 3, 2009:

Australia
Synopsis: A romantic action-adventure set in northern Australia prior to World War II, AUSTRALIA centers on an English aristocrat (Kidman) who inherits a ranch the size of Maryland. When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver (Jackman) to drive 2000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country's most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin, Australia by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbor only months earlier. With his new film, Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.
Cast: Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, David Wenham, Bruce Spence, Ben Mendelsohn
Director: Baz Luhrmann
Recommendations: Turns out not everyone liked Australia, but I loved it. One of my favorite movies of 2008, and I am for sure going to buy it, watch it again and then give it to my parents and friends to watch.

Twilight is the #1 Christmas Movie of 2008 because...do I even need to say it? Didn't you hear all those screaming fans over at Comic Con during the Twilight panel? And even if I wasn't screaming, I am as excited about the movie. Plus I am a big fan of Catherine Hardwicke's films. I just love her style of filmmaking. Her previous films include Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown. And don't even get me into how good the book is. Twilight is definitely #1 this Christmas. |

Thoughts: First off, I am a huge fan of Baz Luhrmann, I own all his movies (yes, all three of them). So, needless to say that I was sold on this movie before I even really heard anything about it. In all of his movies, Baz Luhrmann uses some sort of "device" to tell the story, in "Strictly Ballroom" it was the dancing, in "Romeo & Juliet" it was their way of speaking, in "Moulin Rouge" it was the singing, and it looks like in Australia it's going to be the fact that the story is told through a fairy tale. In addition to that, the cast consists of Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, and I am sure I am not alone when I say that it's a joy to watch them on screen. They are both great actors. And so I am looking forward to Australia, it might be another good one for Baz Luhrmann. Oh and did I mention that the trailer looks really good. Did you see the sort of dreamy look that it has? Love it!
