Australia

Synopsis: A romantic action-adventure set in northern Australia prior to World War II, AUSTRALIA centers on an English aristocrat (Kidman) who inherits a ranch the size of Maryland. When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver (Jackman) to drive 2000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country's most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin, Australia by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbor only months earlier. With his new film, Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.

Recommendations: Turns out not everyone liked Australia, but I loved it. One of my favorite movies of 2008, and I am for sure going to buy it, watch it again and then give it to my parents and friends to watch.

I've Loved You So Long

Synopsis: I've Loved You So Long follows Juliette, who after 15 years in prison returns to her hometown of Nancy. When she is reunited with her younger sister Lea, with whom she stays, Juliette finds herself imprisoned by another pain and secret. Meanwhile, Lea seems to lead a happy, calm and "normal" life with her husband Luc, two young daughters, many friends and an exciting job. Although siblings, Juliette and Lea are complete strangers to each other.

Recommendations: I wanted to watch this movie when I first heard about it, and now that it's on DVD, it's a definite rental for me.

Lake City

Synopsis: This intense Southern drama is about a mother (Spacek) and son (Garity) who reunite under desperate circumstances; years after a family tragedy drove them apart. Once together, they are forced to sort out their past and escape a dangerous situation in the present.

Recommendations: I haven't heard anything about Lake City, but it doesn't really sound that interesting, so I'll wait for it to be on TV.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Synopsis: Chloe (voice of DREW BARRYMORE), a diamond-clad, bootie wearing Beverly Hills Chihuahua enjoys her luxurious lifestyle so much, she hardly notices Papi (voice of GEORGE LOPEZ), a tough looking Chihuahua who happens to be head-over-paws for the pampered pooch. But when Chloe gets lost in the rough streets of Mexico with only a street-wise German Shepherd (voice of ANDY GARCIA) to help her find her way home, Papi heads south of the border -- joining forces with a motley crew: two humans (PIPER PERABO, MANOLO CARDONA), a sly rat (voice of CHEECH MARIN) and a nervous iguana (voice of PAUL RODRIGUEZ) – to rescue his true love.
