Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

The sequel to Madagascar, you’ve got to see it at the movies.

Repo! The Genetic Opera

Repo! The Genetic Opera

I only recently became aware of this movie and after watching the trailer, I am totally excited to check it out in theaters. I mean come on, Anthony Head singing, I’ve been wishing for that ever since Buffy’s “Once More With Feeling” episode (Yes, I am a Buffy fan!). Plus I am a musical freak, and how good does that trailer look!

Synopsis: In the year 2056 - the not so distant future - an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GeneCo, a biotech company that offers organ transplants, for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by villainous Repo Men. In a world where surgery addicts are hooked on painkilling drugs and murder is sanctioned by law, a sheltered young girl searches for the cure to her own rare disease as well as information about her family’s mysterious history. After being sucked into the haunting world of GeneCo, she is unable to turn back, as all of her questions will be answered at the wildly anticipated spectacular event: The Genetic Opera.

DEFINITELY RENT

Role Models

Role Models

I don’t know why, but this movie just doesn’t look that funny to me, at least not funny enough to see in theaters. But I can always use some entertainment when I’m at home, hence this is a rental for me.

Synopsis: Wild behavior forces a pair of energy drink reps (Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott) to enroll in a Big Brother program. (Source: imdb.com)

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (Limited)

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

I don’t think I can handle watching this at the movies, it’s a little too depressing for me. But the trailer looks great so I definitely want to eventually watch it.

Synopsis: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a fictional story told through the eyes of an eight year old boy largely shielded from the reality of World War II. This unforgettable tale follows a forbidden friendship that forms between Bruno, the son of a Nazi commandant, and Shmuel, a Jewish boy held captive in a concentration camp. Though the two are separated physically by a barbed-wire fence, their friendship grows and their lives become inescapably intertwined.

DEFINITELY WATCH ON TV

Soul Men

Soul Men

This movie just looks ok to me. Nothing too exciting. Let’s just say that if I catch it on TV, maybe I’ll watch it, but that’s about it.

Synopsis: Though it’s been some twenty years since they have spoken with one another, two estranged soul-singing legends agree to participate in a reunion performance at the Apollo Theater to honor their recently deceased band leader. (Source: imdb.com)

HELL WILL FREEZE FIRST

Codename: JCVD (Limited)

JCVD

Never been a fan of Jean-Claude Van Damme and it’s not going to start now.

Synopsis: Between his tax problems and his legal battle with his wife for the custody of his daughter, these are hard times for the action movie star who finds that even Steven Seagal has pinched a role from him! In JCVD, Jean-Claude Van Damme returns to the country of his birth to seek the peace and tranquility he can no longer enjoy in the United States.

Actually Role Models got a great review from Entertainment Weekly and Repo got an awful review from them. So maybe a reconsideration? Though I do admit the Repo trailer looks really cool.

    Hi Judy,

You know I did hear good things about “Role Models,” so it might be worth seeing in theaters, but I think I’m still going to wait to rent it, mostly because I won’t have time to actually see it at movies and I think I’ll enjoy it better at home. I’d love to know what you think if you do see it at the movies, I might change my mind about it.

As for Repo, I have heard some bad things about it as well and some good things, but the trailer looks really good and musicals are my thing, so that’s why I feel compelled to see it :-)

And of course, I am always open to suggestions and I love when a movie I had no interest in surprises me in a really good way.
