Top 20 Christmas Movies of 2008
Update: Check out which are the new top Christmas movies for 2009
We promised ourselves that we would put some order out there and give everyone a list of all the great movies coming out this Christmas season 2008. We also decided to include movies starting in November because for us, Christmas always start a little early. So while you are out buying gifts or gift cards for your loved ones this Christmas, make sure you keep an eye out for these these movies. So without further ado, here are the Top 20 Christmas Movies we are most excited about in 2008.
1. TWILIGHT
Director: Catherine Hardwicke
Cast: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Christian Serratos, Elizabeth Reaser, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, Rachelle Lefevre, Anna Kendrick, Jackson Rathbone, Cam Gigandet, Michael Welch, and Justin Chon
Release Date: November 21, 2008
|
Twilight is the #1 Christmas Movie of 2008 because...do I even need to say it? Didn't you hear all those screaming fans over at Comic Con during the Twilight panel? And even if I wasn't screaming, I am as excited about the movie. Plus I am a big fan of Catherine Hardwicke's films. I just love her style of filmmaking. Her previous films include Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown. And don't even get me into how good the book is. Twilight is definitely #1 this Christmas. |

2. THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON
Director: David Fincher
Cast: Cate Blanchett, Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, Julia Ormond, Elle Fanning, Elias Koteas, Jason Flemyng, and Josh Stewart
Release Date: December 25, 2008
|
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is the #2 Christmas Movie of 2008 because I have been looking forward to seeing it ever since I first heard that David Fincher and Brad Pitt were involved in the project (which was a couple of years ago). The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is based on a 1922 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a boy born with the body of a 70 year-old man, who is aging backwards. While I haven't actually read the story (and won't now because I want to see the movie first), it just sounds so intriguing and with someone like Brad Pitt in the title role, I think we can expect some Oscar buzz. Definitely another big film this Christmas. |

5. THE ROAD
Director: John Hillcoat

Release Date: December, 2008
|
UPDATE: The Road has been moved from its November 26, 2008 release to a December release, which could turn into a 2009 release. The Road is the #5 Christmas Movie of 2008 because I don't know why but I have a really good feeling about this one. The first pictures released from The Road look really great, and the cast is not so bad either (what I really mean is that the cast is freaking great). |

|
Revolutionary Road is the #6 Christmas Movie of 2008 because it's another film I have a really good feeling about. Plus, Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead) hasn't disappointed me so far, and who hasn't been waiting to see our favorite power couple, aka Leo and Kate, back on screen together. I for one don't want to miss it. I'm also betting this movie is going to be Oscar buzzworthy. |

Release Date: December 25, 2008
|
The Spirit is the #7 Christmas Movie of 2008 because well frankly I was just blown away by the trailer and the clips shown during The Spirit panel at Comic Con were excellent. I also love the fact that Frank Miller decided to go with someone that is not well known, Gabriel Macht (Because I Said So, The Good Shepherd), as the lead character. This guy is going to bring so much to the part, can't wait to see it. The Spirit is based on the newspaper strip of the same name created by Will Eisner. |

Four Christmases is the #11 Christmas Movie of 2008 because I decided to go with my gut feeling on this one. I'll be watching Bedtime Stories for no other reason but Lucy Lawless!!
This is a great list. I had no idea that Will Smith had another movie coming out this year. Thanks for the Info! I don't know about the soloist though. It sounds like Robert Downey Jr is after an Oscar here. Not that he doesn't deserve it but still I feel like he would be trying too hard.
I agree. Fun list. I also think it is funny that you included not one but two Daniel Craig movies. You must like him.
I will be going to see Marley and Me, Madagascar 2, Bedtime Stories, and Four Christmasses.
They all look GREAT!
we are so going to see 4 christmases it looks like it going to be pretty damn funny
How can you put Twilight as #1 ? It is definitely not a Christmas Movie.
I don't knoe, I think I agree that the top movies will be Four Christamses, Marley and Me and probably that new dog movie... Bolt that you have on as #10.
This is a good list. I guess time will tell really soon.
Is everybody ready for black friday?
omg twilight the book is AMAZING as it is..
andd i know the movie will none other than outshine it..
NO DOUBT!
amazing cast, storyline, director, book, the complete package!!!!

Waz up? I M 13 and I love 2 PAR-T oh yeah! luv ya guyz! Enjoy Twilight..its good
four christmas is ok couldn't get into bolt cant wait to see bedtime stories and yes man! madagascar 2 was rather sweet and quantum of solace was a let down to the previous bond films.
The fact that you've put Twilight as the number 1 movie for this Christmas totally nullifies the rest of your list. How could you? I thought I loved you. Now I don't ever want to see your opinion again.
(There was never any love. This is the first time I've ever seen this website. The rest is true, though.)
Well, eric I guess everybody has their opinion. The fact is Twilight actually did really good at the box office, so I wasn't that wrong. As for the rest of the list, these are pretty much all the movies coming out this Christmas, so chances are you will be going to see one of these, so you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss.
That said if you just can't live with Twilight as #1 on the list, I totally understand, you will be missed!
im glad twilight is number 1 on this list. in my opinion i think that this was the best movie that has came out this year and the books are pretty good too.
and i may be 13 but i think my opinions are as good as any other persons here.
